KRISTIAN ROOKE'S 100" REBUILD

The 100" bug has Kristian Rooke in it's clutches! Kris is not a newcomer to re-builds and teamed up with Martin Croft not too long ago to help build Martin's 100".

Both vehicles inspired by the Discovery Home and Leisure Channel's "A 4x4 is born."

P.S. As we are showing the build from start to finish - the more recent photographs are at the bottom of the page.

"Here are some pictures of my project so far..... "

"...From acquiring the chassis at the beginning to first fit of the 300tdi and fitting of the modified body to the 100" chassis..."

"...and also our home made rear winch bumper to house the 9.5XP."

"Note the shortened down front end and very short rear end. I am obviously trying to reduce over hang as much as possible."

"King cab" roof made out of a cut down salvage crew cab roof and truck cab.
Roll cage manufactured out of stainless steel tube, note the main hoop bent out of 1 piece of tube. I wanted to reduce the amount of joins as much as possible, it took a lot of careful measuring and marking, and alot of patience. but i am very pleased with the end results."

Once again the front hoop was made out of 1 piece to reduce joints, more patience required! As you can see on the right hand side is what I am calling the "experimental" bends. The join between the front and back of the cage is made with some solid machined pins that fit inside the tube, welded at the back and bolted at the front.

"Once the tree sliders are fitted, combined with the excellent body sliders and proud top tube of the roll cage I should have quite a bit of tree protection.
I am at the stage know where i have to decide what colour to paint the body. I have decided to go for a non metallic commercial paint for its durability and ease of matching, but am unsure what colour to go for, so watch this space!"

The in-fill pieces on the "King cab" sides were made out of a cut down set of 90 sides, maybe a waste of a set of sides but i wanted the sealing arrangement for the top, bottom and door seals. The rock sliders are yet to have the tree sliders attached.

"Had 4 busy days turning the massive collection of parts and a freshly galvanized chassis into a rolling chassis...
..Final build at last!"

"Just another pic of some of the newly painted body work. Its a bit bright but I like it!!"

Kristian
